IV Sedation Dentistry at DGY Dentistry Ann Arbor

DGY Dentistry Ann Arbor is now working with an anesthesiologist, Dr. Harry M Miller, MD, to provide IV sedation dentistry to our patients. Although some dentists do IV sedation on their own after a course and certification, we know our excellence lies in providing dentistry and have chosen to leave IV sedation with an experienced MD.

What is IV sedation dentistry?

IV sedation dentistry administers a sedative through a vein and puts the patient asleep for the duration of the dental procedure. The recovery is approximately an hour after completion, and patients will be a bit unsteady. They will need someone to look after them until the effects of the sedation wear off.  IV sedation is a possible option for patients who don’t respond well to oral sedation and are left with no other solution.

The American Dental Association considers “The administration of local anesthesia, sedation and general anesthesia is an integral part of dental practice…” and  “is committed to the safe and effective use of these modalities by appropriately educated and trained dentists.”
